2018 Black Friday is on the 23rd November, followed Cyber Monday on the 26th, however Cyber Week starts well before Black Friday and can continue for a week after Cyber Monday.
Cyber Week emerged from the US with an almighty bang a few years back. We have Amazon to blame or thank, depending on what side of the fence you sit on. Cyber week is almost here again and many of the UKs leading retailers are already gearing up with huge Black Friday offers to tantalize consumers taste spuds yet again.
A lot of retailers will launch sale during Cyber Week to minimise the financial hit while still giving retailers that feeling that they have snagged a bargain during Cyber Week. However, retailers will ultimately succumb and offer great cyber offers and discounts, they can’t resist. Some retailers even make a loss offering Cyber Week offers just to stay in the game which is great for consumers like us!
Cyber Week has become the busiest shopping week of the year with some big retailers and marketplaces turning over in excess of £1M per day! In total retailers turned over around £2Billion during the week. It sure beats the excitement of the January Sales that used to cause a shopping frenzy.
Make sure you don’t overspend and overbuy though as this is counterproductive. It’s always tempting to bag a bargain but not if you don’t need one. Some good advice is to shop around for what you need, make a list then check out the deals during Cyber week to see if they’re cheaper. Moneysavingexpert.com advises shopping around and researching the items you want to buy rather than relying on discount promises from retailers. They may be offering “70% off” their own price, but it doesn’t mean the same item isn’t cheaper elsewhere.
The big retailers like Amazon.co.uk and eBay.co.uk launch early on and make the most of the frenzy before Cyber week officially begins. Amazon.co.uk make huge cuts on their own merchandise, typically tech stuff like laptops, tablets, Echo Dots, Blue Tooth speakers, game consoles and TVs.
Amazon leads the way when it comes to Black Friday steals, albeit that it tends to reserve the largest savings for its own products. So, if you’re in the market for an Echo, Dot, Fire or Kindle, you could make a huge saving. It’s advisable to sign up for the 30-day Amazon Prime free trial, as this will allow you to access the best ‘lightning sales’ 30 minutes before non-Prime members, and you will also get everything you order delivered for free!
Here’s what the independent.co.uk newspaper says: “For 2018, we expect that Amazon’s sale will include major discounts on everything from electronics to this year’s must-have toys, games, fashion, jewellery and beauty products. The site usually also has new “Deals of the Day”. Source: https://www.independent.co.uk/extras/indybest/house-garden/best-black-friday-amazon-deals-a8029976.html

“Online markets are a hugely valuable tool for consumers to shop around and find the best value products, making the most of effective competition. But these benefits for shoppers are put at risk if the suppliers seek to restrict competition between them.”
