Top DIY Spa ideas to get you ready for Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is just around the corner…. Not only that but I feel like we all deserve a long spa weekend away in a secluded location, maybe even a beach somewhere unbearably hot?

But until we can do that I’ve got the next best thing. As Spa’s remain completely out of the question (don’t worry I’m crying with you too) I am bringing the spa experience to us!

You don’t need a trained professional to get the same experience. First things first, run yourself a hot bath with plenty of bubbles!

My favourite bubbles at the moment:

Radox range (available at Boots) - the Muscle Soak will honestly leave you feeling as though you’ve just had the best massage of your life! Sanctuary Foaming Bath Soak - available at Boots  and LOOKFANTASTIC

I’ve also recently discovered bath oil! If you don’t have any of this though 1-2 drops of an essential oil in the bath makes it smell divine! Don’t forget to light your favourite candles to get the full spa effect. Shop Yankee Candles here

Body:

Exfoliator - if you are shaving or waxing this is my favourite step to give you a completely smooth finish but it’s equally as great to help with the regeneration of your skin cells! Moisturiser - always finish a bath with moisturiser. I like to apply mine all over when my skin is still a little damp to lock in the moisture. You should never rub your skin completely dry! Shop exfoliating balms and moisturiser at Boots and LOOKFANTASTIC. And if you haven’t already tried them, The Body Shop’s body butter and yogurts are gorgeous too!

Face:

Face scrub - Avant skincare I avoid any sort of physical exfoliant for the most part but if you’re after a full spa effect whilst your in the bath use a fine abrasive exfoliant like this to remove any dead skin cells. The steam from your bath will help here to unblock the pores further.

Face masks - The Body Shop, Shiseido, LOOKFANTASTIC. There are so many out there to choose from! Just pick your favourite.

Lip Mask - The STARSKIN DREAMKISS™ Plumping and Hydrating Bio-Cellulose Lip Mask available from LOOKFANTASTIC This mask is like no other, perfect for dry lips!

Under Eye Mask - Pixi from LOOKFANTASTIC, Nails inc. Give your under eyes a pamper too! These two brands are my absolute favourites for eye masks. I keep coming back to them again and again.

Eyebrow and eyelash tinting - Amazon or eyelure. Now these steps are optional but I like to finish my face with an eyebrow and eyelash tint. It’s super easy to do at home and if you are like me and have fair hair then not being able to get them tinted is a massive bummer! But I’ve been self tinting now since the first lockdown and I honestly don’t think I will ever go back to a salon for it because it is so SO much cheaper and quicker to do it yourself!

Hair:

Hair masks - Grow gorgeous, LOOKFANTASTIC, HQ Hair, Mankind. Your hair deserves some love too! I would usually apply a hair mask in the morning or midday and keep it in for the rest of the day, even sleep in it if you fancy! There are no rules in lockdown.

Hands: This is my most recent obsession. Having got into the habit of washing my hands after going anywhere coupled with applying hand sanitizer at any given moment when I’m out, my hands have become so dry! And when you think about it, your hands age just as much as your face but we rarely take the time for ‘hand care’. So here are my absolute must steps that you should consider too. Exfoliator to remove the dead skin cells and help with cell renewal. Moisturiser. It is so worth investing in a good hand moisturiser. My favourite is the Neutrogena Norwegian Formula concentrated hand cream, available form Boots!

Feet

Feet Masks - This is a great way to inject some moisture back into your feet. There are different types of foot mask. Peeling, moisturising, renewing etc. I like to use the moisturising masks right after exfoliating my feet. Leaves me feet feel baby smooth! Foot masks available from Nails Inc, LOOKFANTASTIC

For tougher skin: Men selfcare products

And for the readers with facial hair, in addition to all of the above, here are a few key products you need for a good all round pamper. Mankind Beard Oil - Murdock London and Bull Dog. Trimmer - Gillett Whilst you aren’t able to see the Barber, why not invest in some great trimmers to take a hand at your facial hair yourself? After all, it’ll always grow back! You can even get some great shapers from amazon if you don’t trust yourself. Moisturiser - BullDog moisturiser and L’Oréal are amazing for skin that needs a little extra TLC. Why not try a male face mask?

Now take a breath, grab your favourite book,, relax and unwind!
